 About Allan Gold B.A. B.C.L.

Allan Gold B.A. B.C.L. received a Bachelor Of Arts degree and a Civil Law degree from McGill University, one of North America's leading universities. He was called to the Bar in 1976. He served as a Director of FRIENDS FOR AIDS/LES AMIS DES SIDÉENS, a charitable organization, whose mission was "to respond to individual requests by people living with aids." He also served on the Board of Directors of the JULIUS RICHARDSON HOSPITAL CENTRE. He is currently vice-president and on the Board of the JULIUS RICHARDSON FOUNDATION.

Mr. Gold has been a Trial Lawyer, (commercial and civil), for over 25 years, with a particular emphasis in company matters, mortgage foreclosures and tax contestations. As well, he has been a corporate attorney with experience in the sale of businesses, leases, real estate, etc.

Elder Law, recognized as a specialty in the U.S., has recently become more and more important in Canada. Attorney Gold has been involved in such areas as wills and estates, living wills, incompetency/infirmity, etc. Elder law, particularly respecting medical-legal issues and mental decline are now a major interest. In addition, a key focus is aging in the workplace and such problems as the dismissal of the mature worker, age bias, forced retirement, etc. Furthermore, the 50+ entrepreneur is a subject of research and study. He has considered the person who launches a business in later life. And he has examined the situation of an accomplished founder/owner of a company, faced with a future retirement and the shift to the next generation.

"ELDER LAW IN CANADA", a work with a Canada-wide reach has been written for professionals such as lawyers (and notaries), doctors, accountants, health facility administrators, etc. It is designed to assist them in their practice in the coming years. In particular, it will be indispensable for lawyers across the country, with a civil practice, in such varied fields as hospital/malpractice, incapacity/guardianship, labour/wrongful dismissal, business acquisitions and successions, estate planning, etc. There are also sections, which would be helpful to the crown and defence attorneys. As well, this text has great utility for government and judges.

Furthermore, this work is targeted for a wider use, more precisely, the public sector, the health community and the business world. It is needed by corporations, business owners, unions, pension funds, investment counselors, financial planners, and the public in general.
